Desire: A Follow-up

You know that meme, “how it started/how it’s going”? I’m doing that today, but in text form!

Basically, I just want to take a quick look back at my “24 Days of Desire” feature and see how many of them have been fulfilled. It’s been almost a year now, I should have been able to get everything I wanted, right? Let’s see!

Day 1: Television – This was about me wanting to have cable, and if I recall correctly, it was specifically so I could watch the Chucky series. Well, I never got cable, because that would be stupid, and I still haven’t watched Chucky, because I don’t pirate TV shows or movies any more. Chucky is also on Paramount+, which has other things I want to watch, so I’m thinking about a subscription to that… But probably won’t bother.

Day 2: A better GPU – Ain’t got this. I’ve heard that prices are going down, but I haven’t bothered to look in many months. Besides, I only wanted it to beef up my Quest 2, so it’s right down at the bottom of my priority ladder.

Day 3: Star Wars sequels box set – I haven’t looked to see if this exists, and I don’t actually care enough to check. This was a filler episode, for sure.

Day 4: Rock Jocks – An old board game that I would play once for the nostalgia feels and then throw away? Yeah, I don’t think so.

Day 5: The Always Pan – I did get this! For Xmas! I use it frequently! It’s wonderful! Truly, the only thing that separates it from the average frying pan is the included steaming basket, which doesn’t seem all that exciting. But let me tell you, I use it for steaming veggies way more than I do as a frying pan.

Day 6: Maverick Hunter’s Field Guide – It’d be cool to have, but I really should read all the books that I currently own first.

Day 7: LEGO Millennium Falcon – I’ve looked at it online many times. I’ve looked at it in person once. But the thing that keeps me from pulling the ($900) trigger is the fact that I have literally nowhere to put it. If I ever buy a house again, though? This will be my housewarming gift to myself.

Day 8: FNAF Core Collection – This was another filler post. Why buy lesser versions of games I already own? To have the box? I’m not that much of a consumer whore.

Day 9: Son of Godzilla – I’ve made my peace with the fact that this is the one Godzilla movie that will forever be missing from my collection. It’s fine. It’s fine.

Day 10: Abs – I came dangerously close to being in acceptable shape this summer. And then I completely lost all motivation and I’m more or less back where I started. Whoops!

Day 11: NIeR Orchestral Arrangement – I still look at it on my Amazon wish list from time to time, but really, meh. It’s gone down in price, but I still don’t feel the need to pay over $100 for it.

Day 12: Mega Man Comics – This one’s just a fantasy. Archie will never re-publish these books.

Day 13: A space-filler – If I recall correctly, I was looking for something to hang above my bed? Like a big, fancy clock or something. Still don’t have anything there. Probably never will. I’m much too paranoid about it coming loose and bonking me as I sleep. I guess a poster would be safe, but ehhhhhhhh.

Day 14: TMNT Classics – Sadly, also a fantasy. IDW may re-publish some of the volumes I’m missing someday, but I’m not holding my breath, and I’m definitely not paying the absurd reseller prices. Digital is still an option, of course, so that’ll probably happen some day.

Day 15: Headphones – Still rockin’ my cheap, wired earbuds.

Day 16: An Arcade – You know, a new movie theatre is opening near me soon, and apparently, it’s going to have an arcade in it. So, win?

Day 17: Cap’n Crunch Pancakes – These were lost to time, but my parents did bring me back Fruity Pebbles pancake mix and syrup when they went for a weekend trip to the US a while ago. I’ll call this one a win as well.

Day 18: DIE HARD – I’ve discussed this already: my dad owns the box set, I’m not buying my own.

Day 19: Xenoblade Chronicles X – Well, we didn’t get an XCX port on Switch in 2022, but we did get Xenoblade Chronicles 3. And it’s a fantastic game! Also, I guess that technically speaking, a very good new game is better than a re-release of an old favourite. Put this in the win pile, too.

Day 20: Sleep – I still don’t sleep especially well. However, cannabis and I have become good friends over the course of the year, and it really does make me sleep like a baby. Alas, I don’t indulge as often as I’d like, because I have no intention of becoming addicted.

Day 21: BAND-MAID – I did go see BAND-MAID last weekend! I flew across the continent to go see them even! And it was absolutely worth it! Best concert I’ve ever been to? Maybe not, but it’s definitely the most I’ve ever enjoyed a concert. I had an absolute blast, and it’ll be a memory that I treasure for the rest of my days.

Day 22: Fazbear Frights – Pretty sure I’d already ordered this when I wrote the original post. It took a long time to arrive (June, I think?), but I’ve got them, and I’ve actually been reading them! I’m on book four now, and while they’re not exactly fine literature, I’ve really been enjoying these stories. It’s exactly the kind of light reading that works for me.

Day 23: Resident Evil VR – What I wanted was a VR remake of the original Resident Evil. Capcom has shown no interest in doing that, but they are adding a VR mode to Resident Evil Village at some point, and the Resident Evil 4 remake will also be VR compatible. So, yeah, sometimes you get way more than you ask for. It’s just a matter of buying one of those heckin’ expensive Playstation VR rigs.

Day 24: Christmas Crunch – I looked for it while I was in New Jersey for the BAND-MAID concert, but did not see it among all the other Xmassy cereals. I did bring home a box of Apple Pie Toast Crunch, though, which is admittedly not holiday-themed, but it was exotic enough to be exciting. Also, it’s delicious!

So it’s not exactly a clean sweep, but I’d say I did pretty well for myself in 2022. I got my number one wish (the BAND-MAID concert), so really, everything else was gravy. Or, I should say, I made my number one wish come true. And I think that’s a big part of why it was so satisfying. Normally I’m incredibly lazy and can’t be bothered to effort, but I actually put in the work and money that it took to get a thing that I wanted very badly. I was proactive and made it happen all on my own. It feels great! Go me!
