So there’s this board game café downtown that I went to a couple weekends ago, and they have so many board games. Like, walls and walls and walls just crammed with board games. I would suggest that they have all the board games, but I know that is not the truth of the matter.
There are at least two board games absent from their collection. One is It From the Pit, which I have written about at length before. The other is Rock Jocks. Behold!
Now, I actually owned Rock Jocks back when I was knee-high to grasshopper. I played it all the time. Or, at least, I played with it all the time. The game board, being a vertically-oriented cardboard mountain, made a pretty great playset for other toys. You’d best believe that there were many a battle between Ninja Turtles, Z-Bots, and the like on that mountain. The climber characters from Rock Jocks were a bit awkward and didn’t make for great toys, but you know that the yeti piece from the game saw plenty of action.
Also, I guess sometimes I played it the way it was meant to be played, but I have basically no fond memories of that. What fun are rules, anyway?
As for why I’m desiring this game now? It’s all just to get that sweet, sweet blast of nostalgia. I was broken-hearted but not surprised that they didn’t have it at the board game café, and I haven’t really been able to get it out of my mind since then. It’s not an all-encompassing need or anything like that, but sometimes I’ll just be sitting there and think to myself “Man, I wish I had been able to play Rock Jocks one last time.”
I’ll let it go at some point, but for today, it’s definitely something I’d like to get the chance to revisit.
