~ Game Over ~
DEAD OR SCHOOL (PC) – I bought it because the title made me laugh out loud. Much to my surprise, it turned out to be a pretty enjoyable little hack ‘n’ slash. Could use a bit more polish, but it’s just the right difficulty level and I had a fun time playing it.
Ring Fit Adventure (Switch) – I’ve been making time to play this for an hour or so every Sunday for a couple months now, and I’ve finally, finally beaten the game on New Game+ mode. Now to start New Game++! Hopefully I’ll stick with it better this time around and finish it within 2025.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita’s Rewind (Switch) – A brand-spankin’ new arcade-style brawler that came out of nowhere and I purchased immediately. I have no regrets. While it could have used a little more time in the oven, it’s exactly what I both expected and hoped for.
The Final Pin (PC) – I’ve now played all of Jordan Lindgren‘s games, and they’re all great in their own way. This one’s more detective mystery than the horror I was expecting, but I still quite liked it. Varied gameplay and characters kept things interesting for the almost-2-hour runtime.
Blade Runner (PC) – Imagine a point-and-click adventure game without an inventory or puzzles or a sense of humour. You’d probably enjoy it if you’re a massive fan of the movie, but as someone who is not one of those, it rang a bit hollow.
Ys X: Nordics (PS5) – Too much story. I had fun adventuring and fighting monsters and sailing around the world, but the dialogue often dragged on too long. Surprisingly, I also found Hard mode a little too easy. A few bosses took me a couple tries to beat, but I think I could’ve handled Nightmare.
Among Ashes (PC) – Another horror game-within-a-game, but this one goes hard. The in-world game is a pretty good survival horror FPS, and I kept getting so lost in it that the meta-game jump scares got me almost every time. Gold star for this one.
AWAKEN – Astral Blade (PS5) – Not to be confused with the artistically similar but much higher-budget Stellar Blade, this is a 2D metroidvania. And a very enjoyable one at that! I could not have cared less about the story (I didn’t read any of the notes), but it was very fun to play. Has a good Souls-like feel to it, but not too hard.
