Monthend Video Game Wrap-Up: March 2021

~ Game Over ~

Control (PS4) – 100% trophies for main game and DLC expansions. Super great game. Strongly recommend, would play again. Probably should continue playing, because there are still incomplete missions…

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D (3DS) – I was enjoying the original so much that I decided to revisit the remake that I’d never finished. Good call, me! MM3D is an incredible remake and I want so badly for a Switch port to free it from the teeny-tiny confines of 3DS Jail. I even went for the 100% clear, which I never do for MM. Too many mini-games; it’s really my only major complaint with this one.

Pixel Puzzle Makeout League (Switch) – Sold as a hybrid of nonogram puzzles and dating simulator, it was ultimately disappointing on both fronts. The puzzles never got bigger than 15×15, and the dating simulator was non-existent. It’s actually just a linear visual novel. BUT the story has some wild and genuinely interesting twists, so it wasn’t a total wash.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask (N64) – For a game that was rushed through development in only a year, Majora’s Mask is bursting with originality and creativity. There are so many layers to this game, so much depth, so much personality. It rightly belongs up near the top of my Favourite Zeldas list. There’s a video series on this one coming… sometime.

Little Kite (PC) – Indie point-and-click adventure that I got for free. I recorded my playthrough, so why not go watch that? It’s only three episodes, and each is less than an hour long. Unlike all those feature film-length Zelda videos…

Downfall (PC) – Do you remember how much I liked The Cat Lady? I recently learned that it has both a prequel and a sequel. This is the former, and it’s great. It’s a spooky sort of point-and-click adventure, and feels like it was very strongly inspired by Silent Hill 2.

Super Mario 3D Land (3DS) – Did a quick run of the main game, just to reminisce about how friggin’ excellent it is. Still have the Special worlds to clear.

Monster Hunter Rise (Switch) – Rolled credits after completing the 4-star village quests. Was not expecting that to happen so soon. Though it seems that I’ve still only just scratched the surface of what this game has to offer, which is good, because this is definitely the most fun Monster Hunter to date.

~ Progress Notes ~

Hitman (2016) (Stadia) – One mission to go.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (Wii U) – At the Earth Temple.

Bravely Default II (Switch) – Gained the Red Mage asterisk.
