Monthend Video Game Wrap-Up: September 2020

~ Game Over ~

God of War (PS4) – I’m quite surprised at how much I liked it, and especially how effective the ending was. It was completely the opposite of every video game ending ever, and I thought it was great. Totally caught me by surprise. If you missed it, I already wrote a bunch about this one.

FNAF AR: Special Delivery (iOS) – I wasn’t expecting much, but got even less than that, because the game kept crashing after being open for a minute. So I barely even know what it’s about. It may because my phone is sorely outdated, but I prefer to think that the app is just that poorly-made. Deleted after about 10 minutes of struggling against it.

Piczle Colors (Switch) – Another picross bites the dust. Though it should be noted that Piczle Colors brought something newish to the table by sort of messing with the way that “color picross” has been done by other developers. It took some time to wrap my brain around it, though I did find the extra layer of challenge to be satisfying.

Mega Man X (SNES) – First game played on my Twitch stream. Because that’s a thing I do now. And of course it was.

Kirby Super Star (SNES) – Also played this on the livestream. Good times, those SNES games I’ve played a million times. I don’t even know why I buy new games!

FNAF: Sister Location (Switch) – Still my favourite FNAF. It’s surprising that the sub-optimal Switch control scheme doesn’t get in the way as much as I thought it would. Really just in the number pad section in Night 5. Although the private room is even more impossibly difficult than ever without directional audio. Even on PC, it’s much too hard for me anyway.

Zatch Bell: Mamodo Battles (GC) – A fighting game that’s fun, but simplified just a little too much to have staying power. Cleared two of the six story modes, plus a bunch of exhibition matches, and that was enough.

Oxenfree (PC) – Played for the inaugural launch of the Friday Night Spooker Stream. Visit a haunted island with several acquaintances! Discover the secret behind the weird space triangles! Scrub back and forth across a radio band endlessly! Learn how to check your volume levels before streaming to make sure that your mic audio is actually audible! (All jokes aside, I greatly enjoyed it. Would play again for a less terrible ending.)

Super Mario 64 (Switch) – You give me another avenue to play Mario 64, and I’m going to play Mario 64 again. It’s science.

Donkey Kong Country (SNES) – This one I didn’t play on stream. It was just for fun. Just for me. Because I needed to recover after Donkey Kong Land last month.

~ Progress Notes ~

Gauntlet: Dark Legacy (GC) – Battling through Desert Realm.
