Nintendo Direct 2.9.2022

It feels like forever since we’ve seen a big Nintendo commercial like this. Maybe only since December? But I don’t think I did a “liveblog” of the last one, so… as good as forever ago.

Show’s starting! Let’s-a go!

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes – Looks to be a musou based on FE: Three Houses, which I never played. I did play the original FE:Warriors, and while it was fun, I just don’t care enough about Fire Emblem in general to play this… double-sequel?

Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp – Man, it looks so good, and it’s been so long since we’ve gotten an Advance Wars game. I’m really torn on whether I’m going to get this or not. On one hand, fun. On the other hand time sink.

No Man’s Sky – It blows my mind that this is coming to Switch. Is it through the cloud? I’m not overly interested in it, though that’s mostly because of the not-so-great reception it got when it originally launched on PS4. I could see myself getting into it if given a chance, though.

Mario Strikers: Battle League – Yes! What is the best video game sports franchise? Mario Strikers, without a doubt! It’s the Super Smash Bros of sports, basically. Looks like there are a ton of new options in this one, and it looks like a blast! Also, Rosalina is playable in this one, and I’ll always say yes to Space Princess.

Splatoon 3 – Salmon Run mode was by far the best part of Splatoon 2, and I’m very happy to see that it’s coming back, presumably bigger and better than ever. I hope it’s not only available at certain times of day this time around, though. That was real dumb.

Front Mission 1st – Neat. Not sure if there’s room in my life for a tactical RPG that doesn’t have “Final Fantasy” or “Triangle Strategy” in the title, but it looks cool!

Disney Speedstorm – FTP Disney kart racer. Could not care less.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed – I could get into this. I’ve always wanted to play it (and the sequel), but never got around to it. Maybe now’s the time! Well, maybe April is the time, anyway.

Assassin’s Creed: Ezio Collection – I’d be very interested if I didn’t have to work or sleep. A bundle of three open-world games makes me feel somewhat… agoraphobic?

SD Gundam Battle Alliance – I’ve never Gundam’d anything, and I’m not about to start.

Chrono Cross: the Radical Dreamers Edition – Amazing! Square-Enix finally remembered that Chrono Cross exists, and that people like it! While I’m not blown away by the enhancements, I do like the idea of being able to play the packed-in, officially-translated-for-the-first-time version of Radical Dreamers.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Obviously I’m 100% in for new Kirby. And now he can merge with cars and vending machines? Sure, why not? Probably not as good a gimmick as robobot armor, but still looks fun! And there’s a town that grows over the course of the game! That’s like my favourite thing in games!

MLB The Show 22 – I already told you that Mario Strikers is the best sports game. No sale. But I do appreciate the muppet.

Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece – I think it’s every KH game, in the cloud. I have them all on PS4 already, so… this is too little, too late.

Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series – Yes! Klonoa is great! I’d like to know more about which games are actually included in this collection. Klonoa 1 and 2 would be enough to warrant, but I wouldn’t complain if the GBA games were included… Regardless, it’s nice to see Klonoa get some love.

Portal: Companion Collection – I wondered a couple years ago why Portal hadn’t been ported to modern (or even last-gen) consoles yet. It’s about dang time! Maybe now I’ll finally finish Portal 2…

Live A Live – A SNES RPG that I’ve always wanted to play, but it felt a little too difficult to get into because it was never released outside of Japan. I will absolutely be playing this remake. If nothing else, to experience the incredible Yoko Shimomura soundtrack as it was meant to be heard.

Nintendo Switch Sports – As a hermit, I have no need for this. It has online play, sure, but 97% of the fun of Wii Sports was local multiplayer.

Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival – Nah. I need the arcade machine with the actual drum, please. Fun fact: I’d actually really like to learn how to play a real taiko drum. It was something I vaguely intended to do in the pre-COVID age.

Triangle Strategy – Can’t wait! CAN’T WAIT! (I can’t believe that didn’t give it a better title, though.)

Cuphead – The Delicious Last Course – Having never finished the original Cuphead… maybe I’ll get this and correct that. But probably not.

Metroid Dread – An update that adds a one-hit-and-you-die mode? No way! Dread is already too hard as it is! But I will take advantage of the Rookie mode for speedrunning. Boss rush mode seems like a nightmare that nobody asked for.

Earthbound / Earthbound Beginnings – Overdue. S’all I’m sayin’. It boggles my mind that Nintendo is sticking to their guns, vis-a-vis never releasing Mother 3 outside of Japan, though.

Sizzle Reel – Nothing here particularly piqued my interest.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC – Again, this is long overdue. And as cool as it would be to get 48(!!!) additional courses, it’s not nearly enough to get me to buy Mario Kart 8 again. Though it is free for NSO members…

Xenoblade Chronicles 3This is the only thing in the world that I care about now. SEPTEMBER!!!!!!
