I don’t think it’s going to be a regular thing again, but… Man, I played a large variety of video games in January. Considering that AGDQ sapped up a lot of my free time and school is eating away the rest of it… You start to realize that most of these games are either very short, or carried over from last month.

~ Game Over ~

Mega Man X (SNES) – The opening video game of the year, as per usual. Short writeup here.

Mega Man Legends (PS1) – I really do adore this game. Sadly, every time I go back to replay it, the… unfortunate control scheme gets harder and harder to re-acclimatize to. And the stupid racing game is impossible but I want the Shining Laser. Wah wah wah gamer tears.

Army Men Air Attack (PS1) – I kind of wish I’d played this back when it was new, as I think I would have really enjoyed it then. Looking at it now, it’s an amusing little curio almost certainly lost to time. What I found most odd about it is that there’s a massive difficulty spike right in the middle of the game. If you can tough it through missions six to nine, it’s smooth sailing to the end. Also the co-pilot voice clips are super repetitive and annoying.

Whipseey and the Lost Atlas (Switch) – Wrote a thing.

JackQuest: The Tale of the Sword (Switch) – Writing a thing. (Spoiler: it’s a very underwhelming metroidvania.)

Breath of Fire (SNES) – Writing a thing? I’m considering it. If I don’t… This is a very early SNES RPG that does some cool things (every character has a unique overworld ability) and some less cool things (bosses have HP bars that straight up lie to you). I don’t think I’ll ever want to play it again, but I’m excited to start up BOF2.

Threads of Fate (PS1) – Wrote a couple paragraphs here. There are two playable stories, I only played Mint’s. I didn’t like it enough to play it through twice. I did watch a speedrun of Rue’s story and checked out the secret ending on YouTube, so I’m fully done with this one.

Pokémon Shield (Switch) – Completed the Galar Pokédex (+ Slowpoke).

198X (PC) – I suppose it should say “198X – Chapter 1”, but that’s not how it’s being sold or marketed, which is somewhat deceptive. But I’ll forgive it this time because it’s a neat game. I’m curious to see where it goes, but I won’t hold my breath.

~ Now Playing ~

Timesplitters 2 (GCN) – Made it to the Robot Factory level

Ring Fit Adventure (Switch) – Nearly done World 15

Pixel Puzzle Collection (iOS) – 140%

Turok (Switch) – Completed up to Level 4

Picross: Lord of the Nazarick (Switch) – Completed the first character

Remember back in the day when I used to write a little blurb for each of these?
