Less than usual, perhaps, but I’ve still got a respectable list here.

I didn’t do a very good job of playing anything terribly Halloweeny. I didn’t even buy Alien: Isolation or The Evil Within. A few of the games on this list are of a spooky-ish nature, but nothing overtly horror-themed. And Monster Manor doesn’t count, because I play a little bit of it every month.

~ Now Playing ~

Super Smash Bros (3DS) – Yeah, this version of Smash doesn’t play on a TV, but it’s so good. It’ll probably be the death of my 3DS. It’s great to have Smash on the go anyway.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen (PS3) – Dark Arisen is an expansion pack for the original DragDog. It was not released as $15 DLC, but rather a reissue of the whole game plus the new content for $40. I wanted it badly (DragDog is one of my favourite games), but not at that price. When it went on sale for $7 in September, I nearly exploded with excitement. However, I only played up until the point where I was able to leave Cassardis.

Hyrule Warriors (Wii U) – I may have plugged almost as many hours into this as I have Smash so far. Currently I’m trying to clear off as much of the Adventure Map as I can. I’d say I’m three-fifths done. Maybe?

Senran Kagura Burst (3DS) – Yes, I’ve been playing the booby ninja game. So sue me. For what it’s worth, I did wait until it went on sale. Though I’m a little disappointed that the combat isn’t as deep as the trailer made it look, it’s still pretty good about making you feel really empowered. I have no idea how deep I am into it. I’ve done like seven story missions.

Swords & Soldiers (WiiU) – I saw the terms “RTS” and “on sale for $1.49” on its eShop page and bought it. I… may have spent too much. Technically it is an RTS, but it’s the kind where you just send guys along a path and hopefully you’ll flood the path with guys before your opponent can. It’s not terrible, it’s just not what I want to play. Might not ever finish it.

Dragon Quest (iOS) – Bought this on a whim to play in lines, while waiting for appointments, etc. Grinding around Rimuldar. Haven’t rescued Gwaelin yet.

Terra Battle (iOS) – I downloaded this because it’s a strategy RPG by Mistwalker. I have barely touched it on account of other games having a higher priority.

The Last of Us (PS3) – Plugged a couple more hours into this after a long hiatus. Found an easy way past a tough battle and utterly failed to sneak past an armored vehicle of some sort. Then some jerks left us to die when a ladder broke.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii) – I’d say the net result of pouring hours and hours into Hyrule Warriors was mostly that it made me want to play Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword again. So I’ve started doing just that. Made my way up to the Goron Mines so far.

~ Game Over ~

Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse (3DS) – My second-most anticipated October release, and for good reason. Pirate’s Curse is wonderful in every way. It’s fun, it’s adorable, it’s hilarious, and it’s freaking gorgeous with the 3D turned on. It’s the only 3DS game that I’ve played where I’ve elected to keep the 3D on for more than a minute or two. In fact, I played almost the entire game in 3D. It’s right up there with Shovel Knight in terms of overall quality.

TMNT: Danger of the Ooze (PS3) – A Ninja Turtles game made by WayForward, directed by <del>my good friend</del> Tomm Hulett, a guy I associate with online occasionally. It’s a metroidvania that is a little clunky when you start up, but is clearly made with a lot of love. The feel of the game smooths out fairly quickly, and it’s a whole lot of fun. Light years ahead of the last two PS360 TMNT games, if nothing else.

Army Men: Sarge’s Heroes (N64) – Read my thoughts about it here.

Fire Emblem Awakening (3DS) – I reached the final boss just as the clock hit midnight and Super Smash Bros went live on the eShop. Thus, my final victory was delayed by a couple weeks, but I did make sure to find some time to finish off this excellent game.

Gauntlet (PC) – Oh yeah, and this one. I finished it. It’s quite tough when you’re playing alone. I really should get some friends. It’s so good, I ought to let its true potential shine.

Monster Manor (3DS) – I never list the StreetPass games on this feature because all five of them would show up every month. It’s safe to assume I play each one at least long enough to go through all my collected Miis three or four times a month. Anyway, I finally finished Monster Manor, months and months after clearing the others.

The Legend of Dark Witch (3DS) – A fairly fun platformer that plays like Mega Man with a Gradius upgrade system. The bosses are pretty darn tough, even though every one of them is a squat little anime girl. Sometimes I buy weird games.

~ Re-Runs ~

Metal Gear Solid (PS1) – To be honest, I watched more of it than I played, but I did pay the $10 for the PSN release, so I think I’ve earned the right to list it here.

I really didn’t think that I’d play many games in October, what with the Smash Bros and all, but I did!
