It’s noteworthy that this is my third trip to ‘Murica in less than a year, after having barely travelled outside of the city for the last decade. It’s kind of fun! (But also I always wind up spending too much…)

Anyway, today I’m going to talk about oatmeal.

Because I’m such an exciting person, you see.

But this is no ordinary oatmeal! No, sir! This is Cap’n Crunch Oops All Berries instant oatmeal! There was also a regular Cap’n Crunch oatmeal available for purchase but, I mean, crunchberries. When am I not going to pick crunchberries? Oh, sure, I could have simply bought both, but I try to limit the amount of excessively sugary things I put in my body as best I can. Aside from crunchberries, of course.

Also, I’m going to call this product OABmeal from now on because it’s easier to type and more fun to say.

I can very confidently say that this is by a wide margin the best oatmeal I’ve ever had. Because it’s jam-packed with sugar, of course, but that doesn’t make my point any less valid. I do eat plain-ass oatmeal on a semi-regular basis, and once in a while I will splurge on some with a little flavour dust, but that first spoonful of OABmeal was a major shock to my tastebuds. I had suspected that the flavour wouldn’t be overly powerful, but I was wrong. So very wrong! It’s actually not that different from eating a bowl of Oops All Berries. Except that there’s oats in there too, now.

The very smart thing that Quaker did with this specialty oatmeal was to package the oats and berries separately. That way, after you’ve prepared your oats, you can toss the crunchberries on top so that they retain their crunchiness. Which is very similar to how Cap’n Crunch’s main selling point has always been that the cereal stays crunchy even in milk. And that’s cool! It’s an EZ clap, certainly, but one that cheaper companies may not have bothered with.

My favourite thing about OABmeal, however, isn’t the satisfying taste or thoughtful packaging. Rather, I am over the moon for the itty bitty mini-crunchberries! They’re so tiny and cute! I don’t have a regular crunchberry on hand to compare, but I would estimate that the crunchberries that come with OABmeal are roughly half the size of the average crunchberry. Friggin’ adorable.

I guess it goes without saying that I instantly became a huge fan of this stuff. Absolutely would and will buy again. 100% earns the TE Seal of Approval. This should come as no surprise, as I’ve always been obsessed with Cap’n Crunch’s various cereals. But man, am I ever going to be sad when I eat up that last package and it’s all over. OABmeal is currently not available in Canada, so it’s not like I can just pop it on my weekly grocery order to get my fix. I’m definitely going to be bringing at least one box home with me on any future visits to the USA.

I travelled south of the border for a day-long getaway last weekend.
