The queen of hearts is always your best bet

I don't know what I'm doing

The 20 Greatest Bosses in Video Game History. Number 11 should be much higher on the list, as far as difficulty goes. Like, number one. I want to say Ganondorf deserves better too, but I've hated him ever since they changed him from Gannon. Also, I feel Sephiroth is given far too much credit. He's like number 6 at best.

You're a bad-hearted boy-trap

It's been a while since I said anything about Guitar Hero, so maybe right now is a good time. I've been working hard at 5-starring all the songs on Hard, and slowly making progress through Expert mode. I'm definitely getting better, even though I stumble through most solos by luck alone. I swear, my fingers are nowhere near coordinated enough to play through some of the rougher spots that I've managed to succeed at.

The main driving force behind my effort to master the game is that now the entire song list for Guitar Hero 2 has been released. And if you know any of the songs on there, you'll agree when I say that GH2 is gong to be monumentally difficult compared to the first. "Freebird"'s placement as the final song is entirely deserved, as it's a nine-minute song with a four-and-a-half minute solo. "Bark At The Moon" will look like a cakewalk compared to that. Hell, even "The Breaking Wheel" will seem easy once I've had my ass handed to me by "Misirlou."

On the upside of all this, I procured the demo disc from November's OPM, which conveniently includes a demo of Guitar Hero 2. And as I sit here, hunt-and-pecking away at the keyboard, eating my ramen and peas dinner (Dinner at 11PM? You bet.), I can't help but wonder why it is that I'm not working on getting a respectable score on "YYZ." It is a great demo though. I can't get enough of "Strutter" and "You Really Got Me" is incredibly fun to play. The only bummer is that you need an SG controller (or perhaps a third-party Flying V) to play, so the demo's only good for existing GH fans who can't wait half a month more for the sequel. It'd be nice if they had Dual Shock support so people new to the game could give it a whirl, but really, what is Guitar Hero without a guitar controller?

Spewing from the mouth of Hell

You know, I read this entire post, and all I could think is "when did Hilary Duff get hot?" Because I totally didn't notice. Usually I'm pretty keen on that kind of stuff, but this one totally slipped by me. But honestly, the real mystery here is why is she dating a pantywaste like Joel Madden? Seriously. I'm a hunky shirtless cowboy, not a detective. So anyone, feel free to chime in here. It's making my head spin.

Say, have I mentioned how awesome my job is yet? Well it is. Most days I have so little to do that I completely forget what I did all day by the end of my shift. Also, I put up walls. I dunno. I just thought maybe I'd bring it up. Seemed like something I should do. The one strange thing is that I'm getting satisfaction from helping other human beings. That's never happened before, so I'm a little afraid.

And to complete today's completely worthless blog post (Not at all like yesterday's. That bacon man should define your outlook on life), a horrible, horrible website! It changes more often than Mike's! (Though that's not what makes it so horrible)

I wouldn't have it any other way

In case you didn't know, breakfast is my favourite meal ever.

Any way the wind blows

I've been playing Okami for about two weeks now. I'm not finished yet (and I'm certainly not looking forward to it ending), but I've got to say that it's likely the best Playstation 2 game I own. I don't know what you've heard about Okami by this point, but it is very well worth looking into. It's so beautiful and original, plus it's drenched in Japanese culture and style. Delicious. I think the best way to sum it up would be saying that it's the PS2 equivalent of Zelda. Truly, Clover (the team behind Viewtiful Joe) knows what they're doing when it comes to video games. Maybe I'll review it in full someday. For now, I just have to concentrate on finishing it.

And while I'm on the topic of Japanese culture, wow.

I'll do anything for money

So yesterday was pretty good for me. First of all, I finally finally got my dumb driver's license. So I'm basically not a loser anymore. Awesome.

More importantly, I went to see the Trailer Park Boys movie. It's was pretty much the best movie ever. Plenty of stuff for fans of the show, and very accessible to those who've never even heard of it. But yeah, it was freakin' sweet. Any movie that has Rush's "Spirit Of Radio" as the title catch is a winner in my books. Oh, and it was funny too. Damn funny. Makes Talladega Nights look like Macbeth.

It's getting harder every day

I just watched the latest Flash Tub animation over at Something Awful. Imagine my surprise when I noticed that Shmorky had Googled and traced the same car that I did for a Coozy For Hire strip. Only mine was less detailed and I made it less broken. It's nothing important, but I think it's kinda neat. Click here for evidence.

I get real mean

Sorry for the lack of posting lately... noone really cares, but I figured I'd apologise just incase. Anyway, the whole work thing is really cutting into my "screw around on the internet" time, so I dunno. I've been posting a lot over the last couple months, but that's gonna tone down a bit.

So October's upon us now, and while that's all good and Halloween, it's Band of the Month time today. And it's one of those rare months when the Botm isn't a band, but a single artist. And that artist is Dweezil Zappa, son of none other than the legendary Frank Zappa. The name Dweezil is kind of odd, but it's actually the most normal of all the names of F. Zappa's kids. Certainly you've heard of at least Moon Unit (the remaining two are named Ahmet Emuukha Rodan and Diva Muffin). I actually quite like it myself. But BotM is not about the name! It's about the music! I first heard of Dweezil from the Conker Live & Reloaded Soundtrack, where he and Nile Rodgers cover the "Surf Punks" track. That was always my favourite track from Conker's Bad Fur Day, and holy smokes do they ever make it awesomer.

Maybe a year later it hits me to actually look up some of Dweezil's other stuff, and aside from the fact that he's a bit obscure (even though his name's Zappa), there was plenty to pick at. Frank Zappa was true guitar legend, and that's something tought to live up to. Dweezil is very, very skilled with the guitar, and I've gotta give props to some of the songs where he just shreds, like "The Return Of the Son Of Shoogagoogagunga" and "Confessions Of A Deprived Youth." The only issue I've got is his vocal work. Now, the Dweezil's got a decent voice, it's just that he doens't use it quite properly all the time. That or the lyrics are poorly written and make the vocals sound bad, evidenced by how covers like "Anytime At All" (The Beatles) and "My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Mama" (Frank Zappa) sound excellent in all aspects.

So yeah, definitely look into Dweezil's stuff. I can't say you'll be thrilled by everything you find, but I can tell you that the album Confessions in particular has a bunch of really great songs on it. If you pay attention to the guitar work more that the vocals, I'm sure you'll be able to appreciate the bulk of what's out there. Also, he's got really sweet hair, just check out those killer sideburns. Let's see... sweet hair, cool name, awesome guitarist... yeah, I totally want to be this guy.
