Torrential Equilibrium started all the way back in distant 2002 as a free Angelfire website. What a wonderful start. It was December something or other, nobody really knows the exact inception date, but we like to say it's the 16th. Back in the day it was known as "Mr. Hotshot64's Page of Death" (based on Ryan's old interent alias), or just the incredibly unimaginative "Page of Death" for short. It could have been worse. It could have been the "Page of Doom".

The site was started as Ryan's attempt to emulate his then-favourite (still in the top three, at least) website, X-Entertainment. In that, it was formed mostly around the infrequently posted articles, supplemented not by an actual blog, but rather a flimsy and sparsely-worded news page. It was a blog at heart, but Ryan was still in his anti-blog phase and refused to address it as such.

Over the years, article production fluctuated greatly. At times it could be totally sporadic, with articles coming out at the drop of a hat. For a while there would be at least one a month, and for a very short period, there were weekly articles. Articles have been few and far between recently. Mini-articles (for lack of a cleverer name) were introduced along the way so that articles could be formed without the need for pictures, banners and a high words count. Features (formerly Pseudo-articles) were introduced early on in the form of Chat Radio and the Art Gallery. A couple more Features surfaced and received updates over time, but the category mostly stagnates.

Time played host to many overall site changes: a name change, making the blog the main focus, two complete site overhauls, and generally putting more love and care into the site. Though it can go many days without an update, and sometimes even a month or two without any interesting updates, Torrential Equilibrium is still very much alive and kicking. We just have less time and differenet priorities than we used to is all.

The logo eventually became more streamlined. And blue.

Ryan got into the webmastering game late in 2002, opening a free website account on Angelfire.com in hopes of pursuing all of his webmastering dreams. Those dreams being to mimic X-Entertainment.com, on which he had spent many long nights the previous summer reading all of the back-articles and desperately sitting on the main page tapping F5 in hopes that a new one would show up.

I'm just as confused as you are.

While on Angelfire, the site was obviously a mess. With only the most barest-of-bones knowledge of how HTML works, he created a very basic and very ugly website. But that was suplemented by the fact that he did start consistently updating the site by February of the next year. Over time, he began to find new blogs to idolize, and as he wanted to change the site's look for the better, he began to hunker down and actually figure out what it takes to make a website look half-decent. Five years later, he doesn't know much more about HTML, and hasn't even set a toe into the pool of PHP, but at least he's making good use of what he does know, as TE looks undeniably slick in comparison to its first incarnation.

Ryan is also one of the duo behind the increasingly popular webcomic, Coozy For Hire, along with his good friend Edwin. Ryan is the main artistic force on the team, and as such, is the one drawing almost all of the comics. He occasionally flexes his humour muscle and tries to write a strip here and there, but it rarely amounts to much more than a fart joke. He is also in the process of digitally remastering a series of comics he drew in high school called "Spare!". They run on the Coozy For Hire site on Sundays, as opposed to the CFH strips, which are added each Thursday.

While not contributing to the internet, Ryan mostly spends his time working and sleeping. He tries to find odd time here and there to play video games too, but the allure of all the knowledge in the world is usually too much to pass up and he'll usually end up spending entire days just surfing the web.

OM NOM NOM NOM

Ryan's future isn't too clear at the moment, as he's still trying to figure out exactly what he could bear doing for the rest of his life. A brief stint in University proved that it likely wouldn't be anything that required much book-learning. With any luck, Ryan will be able to contribute some of his artistic talent to the world, either as a profesional artist of some kind, or at least doing it on the side. He's currently enamored with the idea of being a voice actor, but lacks the motivation to pursue it any further than in his dreams.
